Groundwork Sheffield is an environmental trust whose vision is to develop practical and lasting partnerships that support the sustainable development of Sheffield’s environment. They work alongside communities, public bodies, private companies and other voluntary sector organisations to deliver projects which benefit people, places and the environment.

The 'Marie Curie Actions' have long been one of the most popular and appreciated features of the Community Framework Programmes for Research and Technological Development. They have developed significantly in orientation over time, from a pure mobility fellowships programme to a programme dedicated to stimulating researchers' career development. The European Regional Development Fund (ERDF) helps stimulate economic development and regeneration in the least prosperous regions of the European Union (EU).
Since 2000, England has benefited from more than £5bn of ERDF funding, with a further 3.2bn Euros being invested in projects for the new round of programmes (2007-13). These programmes are designed to meet current needs by targeting employment, small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), innovation, high-tech business investment, among other key priorities identified by each region.

The Yorkshire Concept: Proof of Commercial Concept Fund 2007-2010 is a new project Fund designed to stimulate the commercialisation of research and knowledge-based activities in the Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) across the Yorkshire and the Humber region. It is funded jointly, on the principle of matched funding, by the Regional Development Agency, Yorkshire Forward, and the Higher Education Institutions themselves.
LIFE is the EU’s financial instrument supporting environmental and nature conservation projects throughout the EU, as well as in some candidate, acceding and neighbouring countries. Since 1992, LIFE has co-financed some 3104 projects, contributing approximately €2.2 billion to the protection of the environment.
