1 Day Green Roof Workshop
Funded by Marie Curie Industry-Academia Partnerships and Pathways Actions and in partnership with ZinCo GmbH, Germany, and hosted by the University of Sheffield, this is the single largest funded research project into green roofs to date.
The principle aim of the programme is to enhance the qualities of extensive and intensive green roof systems by revisiting the fundamental basis of green roof system design. This will provide a profound understanding of green roof system performance and of the options for optimizing those systems in delivery of ‘ecosystem services’ such as stormwater retention, carbon sequestration, energy conservation, nutrient cycling, support for faunal diversity.
The project has 3 primary Work Packages over 4 years;
WP1 – Screening and evaluation of performance of new and existing vegetation species. (2009 – 2011)
WP2 – Advancement of the understanding of what water does within an existing green roof system buildup. (2010 – 2012)
WP3 – A bottom up review of all elements of existing green roof systems performance and the theoretical development of innovative systems for the future. (2012 – 2014)
This 1 day workshop will be an opportunity to hear about and discuss the progress of WP1 and WP2 from Academics and Research Fellows and Industry Partners involved in the project.
Key note speaker
Dr Brad Rowe, Michigan State University
Dr Rowe leads the Green Roof Research Program at Michigan State University. Brad has been at MSU since 1997, after gaining his Masters and PhD at North Carolina State University, and currently his time is split between teaching and research.
Prof Nigel Dunnett – Department of Landscape, University of Sheffield
Dr. Virginia Stovin – Department of Civil and Structural Engineering, University of Sheffield
Mr Ralf Walker – ZinCo GmbH
And Research Fellows from the Green Roof Systems Project
This 1 Day Workshop is free of charge, but booking is required, please email email@example.com if you would like to attend. The project will pay costs for delegates to take ‘economic’ travel specific to the workshop, for international delegates this will be limited to £350GBP.
